Position Summary...

What you'll do...

Walmart’s Corporate Tech Services (CTS) is a powerhouse of several exceptional teams delivering world-class technology solutions and services making a profound impact at every level of Walmart.

As a key part of Walmart Global Tech, our teams set the bar for operational excellence and leverage emerging technology to support millions of customers, associates, and stakeholders worldwide. Each time an associate turns on their laptop, a customer makes a purchase, a new supplier is onboarded, the company closes the books, physical and legal risk is avoided, and when we pay our associates consistently and accurately, that is CTS. Joining CTS means embarking on a journey of limitless growth, relentless innovation, and the chance to set new industry standards that shape the future of Walmart.

What You'll Do

  • GenAI Application Engineering
  • Design, build, and ship production-grade GenAI applications — LLM-powered services, multi-modal pipelines, and intelligent automation workflows at large scale
  • Own the full lifecycle: prompt engineering and model integration through to serving, latency optimization, and cost governance in production
  • Build robust evaluation frameworks — evals, automated regression, and LLM-as-judge patterns — to ensure model quality, safety, and reliability at scale
  • Work with modern LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, open-source models via HuggingFace / vLLM) and vector stores (Milvus, Weaviate, Pinecone) — RAG is a useful primitive, not the centerpiece
  • Python is the primary engineering language — deep, production-grade proficiency is non-negotiable; async patterns, concurrency, and packaging are table stakes
  • Agentic Systems Development
  • Architect and build native agentic systems using LangChain and LangGraph as core frameworks — stateful agent workflows, multi-step reasoning pipelines, tool-use orchestration, and human-in-the-loop flows
  • Design and evaluate agent topologies: single-agent, supervisor-worker, and multi-agent collaboration patterns with clear understanding of the autonomy vs. reliability tradeoff
  • Build and expose MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers and tools that connect agents to enterprise data sources, internal APIs, and databases
  • Implement production-grade agent observability: distributed tracing, token budget management, fallback strategies, guardrails, and retry logic
  • LangGraph's stateful graph model is the preferred approach for complex, long-horizon tasks; exposure to AutoGen or Semantic Kernel is a plus — but native LangGraph proficiency is the benchmark
  • GenAI Adoption & Engineering Culture
  • Front-end GenAI adoption across your squad and peer teams — hands-on enablement through reference implementations, not just advocacy or demos
  • Facilitate internal workshops, co-build sessions, and office hours that translate GenAI concepts into consistent production habits for engineers at all seniority levels
  • Partner closely with Engineering Managers, Principal Engineers, and product and data leadership to embed GenAI into team workflows, design reviews, and sprint execution
  • Define and own team standards for responsible AI: prompt governance, bias awareness, model versioning, and output auditing
  • Comfortable operating in leadership conversations — able to communicate GenAI investment, risks, and outcomes clearly to senior stakeholders
  • Engineering Excellence
  • Hold a high bar on code quality, system design, and engineering craft — code reviews, architectural RFCs, and design critiques are core contributions, not optional extras
  • Champion observability-first engineering: structured logging, distributed tracing, SLO/SLA definition, and alerting tailored to GenAI workloads
  • Proficient with containerized deployments (Docker, Kubernetes), CI/CD pipelines, and cloud-native infrastructure (GCP, Azure, or AWS) — not your primary domain, but you own it when needed
  • Contribute actively to engineering communities — internal knowledge bases, open-source tooling, cross-team forums, and mentorship

What You'll Bring

  • Python — production-grade, not just scripting; strong grasp of async, packaging, testing, and performance profiling.
  • 4 - 8 years of experience in building and shipping production GenAI systems — systems serving real users with measurable outcomes, not internal demos
  • Hands-on depth with LangChain and/or LangGraph for agentic workflow orchestration
  • Proven experience integrating LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, or open-source equivalents) into production services under real traffic and latency requirements
  • Strong engineering fundamentals: distributed systems, API design, testing strategy, and system observability
  • A track record of unblocking and enabling peers — this role shapes engineering culture, not just codebases
  • Good to Have
  • Experience designing or managing data pipelines at scale — Airflow, Spark, dbt, or equivalent; large-scale data infrastructure exposure is a meaningful differentiator
  • Familiarity with vector databases and embedding pipelines (Milvus, Weaviate, Pinecone)
  • Exposure to open-source LLM serving frameworks (vLLM, Ollama, TGI) and model fine-tuning or PEFT workflows
  • Experience in high-stakes, regulated domains (FinTech, payments, healthcare) where production reliability and audit trails are non-negotiable
  • Contributions to engineering communities — talks, blog posts, mentorship programs, or open-source projects
