Job Description
Role Overview:
The Senior Manager – Cross Border (India & South Asia) will drive Visa’s key cross-border growth initiatives from strategy through execution. This is an individual contributor role requiring the person to develop and implement programs to accelerate cross-border payment volumes across the region. The role will work closely with India & South Asia business leaders and cross-functional teams to shape strategy, lead go-to-market execution and ensure governance rigor. This position requires a balance of strategic thinking and hands-on execution, strong analytical skills, and the ability to influence senior stakeholders across various functions.
Essential Functions:
- Drive Cross-Border Growth Programs: Lead end-to-end go-to-market execution for major cross-border initiatives. Develop business cases and execution plans for new programs, then activate them through issuing bank partnerships and direct-to-consumer marketing channels. Ensure each initiative is aligned with Visa’s international growth strategy and delivers on targeted outcomes.
- Strategy & Leadership: Partner with Visa’s India & South Asia business leadership to shape cross-border strategy and prioritize opportunities. Influence strategic decision-making by providing data-driven insights on cross-border trends and portfolio performance. Regularly brief and align with executives on program progress and market dynamics.
- Portfolio Engagement & Analytics: Develop issuer segmentation and cardholder engagement strategies to maximize cross-border spend and profitability. Analyze portfolio data and industry benchmarks to identify opportunities, then design data-driven interventions to boost activation and usage while reducing dormancy and attrition. Monitor portfolio performance vs. industry benchmarks and adjust plans to achieve growth targets.
- Cross-Functional Program Execution: Coordinate across internal teams (Client Services, Marketing, Analytics, Risk, etc.) to successfully implement cross-border programs. Work with Marketing to create compelling communications and cardholder offers that drive international spending. Partner with Client Services and Risk teams to improve cross-border payment success rates (authorization approvals) by addressing pain points in authentication and transaction processing.
- Governance & Reporting: Establish robust governance frameworks for cross-border initiatives, including performance tracking dashboards, regular program reviews, and clear escalation paths. Ensure timely reporting of key metrics and results to stakeholders. Proactively surface risks or execution challenges and drive cross-functional resolution.
- Annual Planning & Financial Impact: Contribute to the Annual Operating Plan by working with Account Executives and Business Heads to define cross-border growth initiatives, budgets, and revenue targets for the India & South Asia markets. Track and report on business impact, ensuring cross-border programs meet or exceed their financial objectives.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of relevant work experience in retail banking, cards, or payments, with a focus on portfolio growth, partnerships, or business development.
- MBA from a Tier-1 institution is strongly preferred.
- Proven ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and influence senior stakeholders (including C-suite leaders) to drive initiatives forward.
- Strong execution mindset with excellent program management skills – can translate high-level strategy into actionable plans and deliver results in a fast-paced environment.
- Analytical and data-driven approach: able to translate data and portfolio analytics into actionable insights and measurable outcomes for the business.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to craft clear narratives and present recommendations to diverse audiences.
- Familiarity with the Indian payments ecosystem and cross-border payments trends is a plus (e.g. understanding of customer behavior, regulatory environment, and industry best practices in the region).
