Organizational Overview:
Synchrony’s Chief Data Office (CDO) is a team of data management and analytics professionals dedicated to improving customer and partner experiences and optimizing business performance. We enable enterprise data strategy through strong data governance and management practices.
Role Summary/Purpose:
The AVP, Analytics – Data Steward supports enterprise Data Governance, data privacy and data transmission operations by partnering with Risk (i.e., Legal/Compliance) and IT stakeholders (i.e., Information Security) to operationalize governance standards and controls across the organization. The role enables consistent data handling practices through stewardship support, process execution, training, and documentation, and provides analytics and reporting to monitor throughput, quality, compliance, and program adoption.
This position contributes to risk reduction and regulatory readiness by supporting PII data discovery governance, outbound data sharing oversight, consumer rights (e.g., DSAR) process enablement, issue triage and remediation coordination, and maintenance of audit-ready evidence and documentation.
Key Responsibilities:
Support the Data Governance Team to expand program adoption across Synchrony through communication, training, and support of the oversight community, including training/workshop coordination and stewardship support.
Support PII data discovery and scoping operations (where applicable), including scan monitoring/triage, exception management, and coordination of remediation actions with responsible teams.
Support consumer rights / DSAR operational processes (as applicable), including fulfillment of CCPA/CPRA right-to-access and right-to-erasure requests in alignment with internal Privacy OLAs.
Support outbound data sharing governance with third parties by managing the request process and overseeing the workflow, expediting emergency requests, supporting process questions/issues, and ensuring timely progression through required approvals.
Communicate requirements for workflow enhancements with the Data Sourcing team and conduct UAT testing of workflow changes as well as the impact of platform upgrades
Routinely engage with the Supplier Management, Legal, and Information Security teams to support timely risk assessment coordination, issue resolution, and completion of required approvals.
Support governance automation and workflow optimization initiatives to reduce manual effort in risk intake, assessment, tracking, and reporting.
Develop and maintain governance analytics and reporting, including operational and risk KPIs/KRIs, dashboarding, and executive summaries of operational throughput, compliance, remediation progress, and program adoption.
Identify process efficiencies/deficiencies using data and operational insights; produce recommendations, propose control enhancements, and support implementation of process improvements and standardization.
Participate in the analysis of platform defects and data issues; support triage, root cause documentation, remediating planning and execution tracking.
Manage the development, enhancement and standardization of governance documentation (policies, procedures, playbooks, job aids) and training materials; review training completion/usage statistics and recommend enablement improvements.
Required Skills/Knowledge:
Bachelor’s degree; a minimum of 5+ years’ experience in technology, finance or analytics or in lieu of a degree with 7+ years of relevant Data Management experience
3+ years of experience in data governance, privacy governance, or risk mitigation/compliance
Experience supporting data governance and privacy activities such as data discovery, data stewardship operations, and data transmission/outbound data sharing oversight
Ability to translate business requirements into operational workflows
Experience with defining KPIs/KRIs and creating dashboards and reporting for senior leadership
Experience developing and maintaining procedural documentation, job aids, and training materials.
Demonstrated cross-functional communication and coordination skills
Desired Skills/Knowledge:
Experience developing and maintaining procedural documentation, job aids, and training materials.
Knowledge of privacy and data protection regulations and frameworks relevant to governance operations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA/CPRA)
Experience with privacy/governance platforms and workflow tools (e.g., OneTrust; ServiceNow familiarity; data catalog/business glossary tools such as Collibra is a plus)
Strong technical writing and communication skills to support requirements for enterprise documentation and executive summaries for senior leadership
Advanced Excel and Microsoft Office skills (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Visio) for analysis, reporting, and stakeholder presentations
Experience with reporting/visualization tools (e.g., Tableau) is a plus
Experience in using XL pivot tables, VLOOKUP function and macros in Excel
Experience working independently demonstrating excellent work ethic, high energy, customer orientation and a problem-solving mindset
Demonstrated project management skills and the ability to analyze pending assignments to establish priorities and/or multi-task
Strong problem-solving mindset; ability to independently prioritize work, manage multiple assignments, and escalate risks/issues with appropriate judgment
Very high proficiency in English for oral / written communication to support collaboration across business processes, management levels, business requestors and Data Stewards
Eligibility Criteria:
Bachelor’s degree; a minimum of 5+ years’ experience in technology, finance or analytics or in lieu of a degree with 7+ years of relevant Data Management experience
Work Timings: 2:00 PM to 11:00 PM IST
This role qualifies for Enhanced Flexibility offered in Synchrony India and will require the incumbent to be available between 06:00 AM Eastern Time – 11:30 AM Eastern Time (timings are anchored to US Eastern hours and will adjust twice a year locally). This window is for meetings with India and US teams. The remaining hours will be flexible for the employee to choose. Exceptions may apply periodically due to business needs.
