Responsibilities

  • As a Manager, Technology Operations Engineering, you will be essential in providing enterprise services to ensure high levels of product availability for the customers and partners of American Express. Key responsibilities may include:

    • Execute strategic plans for technical service delivery, aligning with business objectives, priorities and resource allocation
    • Driving the adoption of new and innovative technologies, best practices, and methodologies across teams, foster a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement
    • Direct the implementation of system upgrades, updates, and backups, ensure the maintenance of hardware and software systems, and lead the management and maintenance of network infrastructure
    • Lead the maintenance of comprehensive documentation of system configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps, and generate detailed reports on system performance, incidents, and resolutions
    • Direct complex technology projects and initiatives contribute to the development of advanced operational policies and procedures, and identify areas for improvement
    • May oversee and mentor a team of technology operations colleagues, enabling a culture of continuous learning, growth opportunities, and inclusivity for all individual colleagues and teams
    • May provide direct leadership and coaching to technology operations teams, supporting training and development of best practices
    • Collaborate and co-create effectively with teams in product and the business to align technology initiatives with business objectives

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, and/or comparable experience. 8+ years of varied experience in software engineering or service delivery

    • Prior relevant IT work experience including systems development activity

    Required:

    • Extensive knowledge of Oracle Cloud and Oracle Fusion application with Finance and P2P domain
    • Extensive knowledge of Reporting, Analytics, Dataware housing and Hyperion suite of products
    • Working knowledge of Java, .Net, Unix, Databases, full stack engineering, etc.
    • Extensive knowledge of Splunk, Dynatrace, Grafana, Prometheus, ELF, Kibana
    • Good understanding of Agentic AI and AI ops
    • Experience in building automations (using scripting/Ansible/Python/Java etc.)
    • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
    • Expertise in identifying Application/Infrastructure risks, mitigation strategy and the ability to work well with others to ensure risks are mitigated.
    • Experience implementing highly available solutions (e.g., always on, clustering, mirroring) as well as performance troubleshooting and tuning.
    • Experienced level ability in resolving and detailing incidents by using innovative engineering practices.
    • Proactively looking beyond the obvious for continuous improvement opportunities.
    • Establish technical requirements based on industry trends and new technologies.
    • ITIL and Agile knowledge.
    • Experience with debugging infrastructural and Database (Oracle, Db2, Couchbase etc.) related issues.
    • Experience with using CICD tools (Jenkins, GitHub etc.)
    • Experience in reducing the “toil” demonstrating solid site reliability engineering skills
       

    Preferred:

    • Strong interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work well in a diverse team-focused environment.
    • Experience with SRE best practices
    • Strong engineering background in Oracle Financial  applications and Cloud Infrastructure 
    • Experience in implementing Oracle Fusion product is a plus
    • Experience with design, data structures and algorithms,
    • Experience with agile software development methodologies and practices such as Scrum/Kanban, iterations, user stories.
    • Ability to build positive relationships with your team, business, and technology partners to achieve established goals.
    • Ability to effectively interpret technical/business objectives and challenges and articulate solutions.
    • Influence and lead team members with creative thought leadership with data driven changes and improvements by challenging status quo.
    • Demonstrate the ability to effectively communicate to internal business clients and leadership on each facet of issue handling including (but not limited to): issue identification, service restoration, solutions to permanently resolve to ensure high levels of ongoing service etc.
