The General Counsel’s Organization

The General Counsel’s Organization (GCO) of American Express is where great legal minds influence global business strategy. Under the general supervision of the Legal Analyst, the Legal Operations Specialist will support the Global Litigation & Investigations Team and the Global Legal Order Processing Centre of Excellence.   This role will be primarily responsible for supporting the end-to-end processing of third-party legal orders for the India market and other duties as required including providing document India litigation requests. 

Responsibilities

  • Primary responsibilities:

    • Set up cases in the case management system for third party legal orders (e.g., Law Enforcement Agency requests, Debt Recovery Tribunal requests, Custom Notices and Tax Notices) received by the India market. 

    • Assess the validity of the legal order in accordance with Amex procedures. 

    • Prepare correspondence to an issuer of a legal order.

    • Evaluate legal orders and determine the scope of each request including any customer relationships and the data/documents that are responsive.

    • Navigate and retrieve responsive data/documents from Amex platforms and prepare and timely remit responses to the legal orders.

    • Comply with applicable privacy laws and Amex procedures.

    • Closely collaborate with the Legal Analyst and other leaders on the progress of assigned work and raise any doubts or escalations from issuers of legal orders. 

    • Maintain high quality when processing legal orders for the India market.

    • Be a key participant in understanding the local market processing requirements and refreshing procedures for the India Market consistent with the Global Legal Order Processing CoE requirements.   

     

    Additional responsibilities: 

    • Manage some aspects of special projects assigned by counsel to support the logistics and requirements of routine and complex subpoenas.

    • Perform other assigned work-related duties or special projects.

Qualifications

  • Preferred qualifications:

    • Bachelor's in law or another field.

    • Administrative experience in a legal, compliance or similar department. 

    • Able to prioritize, ability to discern critical matters and to meet deadlines.

    • Strong computer skills with proficiency in MS Office Suite including Word and Excel.

    • Able to quickly train on, navigate, and extract information from a variety of databases and information platforms.

    • Able to work independently and a team player.

    • Strong written and oral communication skills.

    • Meticulous attention to detail, able to analyze and problem solve.

    • Able to work productively in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities.

    • Able to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
